CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – The taste of defeat has yet to hit Chip Of Evil (Arthur Blue Chip) as the filly won her sixth straight in P.E.I. Colt Stakes harness racing action on the first half of a doubleheader Super-Saturday at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
Corey MacPherson supplied the winning steer in the $14,500 P.E.I. Colt Stakes Gold division for two-year-old pacing fillies as she toured the oval in 1:56.4 for trainer Eddy Doucette and owner Inarush Stable of Kensington. She has been perfect from half-a-dozen lifetime starts.
CHIP OF EVIL REPLAY
The Jeff Holmes stable was hot on the afternoon portion of the day with a training triple.
U No Peach was a winner in 2:00.2 in her debut in $7,250 P.E.I. Colt Stakes Grassroots action for two-year-old pacing fillies. Ken Murphy was in the bike for the Holmes victory. Holmes also scored with Allaboutthecash (1:58) in a $7,300 two-year-old pacing colt Grassroots divisions with Gilles Barrieau aboard while the Orwell trainer’s third win was with Alcina (1:57.3) in line to Barrieau in the $4,600 Island Ocean Aged Trot Mares Series, presented by Burkie By The Bay Stables.
Barrieau had the hot hands on the afternoon as the Dieppe, N.B., native also won with Ashes To Ashes (1:57.2) from the Ron Matheson barn in race 11, Dusty Lane Dixie (1:58.2) from his own barn in a $7,250 two-year-old filly Grassroots division in race 10 and Goodmorning Nova (1:56.2) leading at every call to win a $14,500 P.E.I. Colt Stakes Gold division for two-year-old pacing fillies in race 9 from the Dwane MacEachern barn as part of his five-bagger. Goodmorning Nova is owned by Melissa Banks and Jason Williams.
The first $14,600 P.E.I. Colt Stakes two-year-old pacing colt Gold divisions was won by Merigo Magic (1:55.2) for driver Adam Merner, trainer Melissa Rennie and owners Mike May, Herman McQuaid, Derrick Cameron and Ian Walker. Jackies Boy prevailed in the other $14,600 split in 1:57.1 for driver Myles Heffernan Sr., and owner-trainer Myles Heffernan Jr.
West Coast Kid lit up the tote board on the afternoon paying $100.40 to win from the Philip Kelly stable with Brodie MacPhee in the driver’s seat in overnight action in race 7.
