Waiting On A Woman gets special retirement day

CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – The greatest trotter in the history of Atlantic Canadian Harness Racing, Waiting On A Woman (Northern Bailey – Southwind Faith), will say his farewells on a Monday afternoon Boxing Day program at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

The Capital oval has a 15-dash card scheduled for a 12:30 P.M. start time.

Race 10 is the Waiting On A Woman retirement trot with the storied 14-year-old taking his final lap around the Charlottetown Driving Park as he has reached the mandatory retirement age. Raised in New Haven, P.E.I., by Mitchell and David Tierney, he has won 82 races in his career while earning $639,060 to make him the richest Atlantic Bred ever born on the Island and second richest Atlantic Sired horse ever.

The top-level trotter set track records across Atlantic Canada in 2010 and 2011 then was sold in 2012 to U.S. interests racing the top levels in Florida, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York and Massachusetts. Kyle Spagnola was training the horse at the end of his career and agreed to send the horse back to P.E.I. to live out his retirement at the Tierney’s New Haven farm where he was born.

Incredible Two (Angus Hall) is the favourite in the $2,400 Waiting On A Woman retirement trot on a splendid afternoon of world class harness racing. Kenny Arsenault trains and drives the four-year-old for owner Wade Peconi of Stanchel. Her top rivals are Freddie (Marc Campbell) and Dealin Magic (David Dowling).

Mantario (Sportswriter) will look to keep on winning in the race 14 Preferred Pace after capturing the $3,500 event last week for the combo of driver Jason Hughes and conditioner Jennifer Doyle. The pacer has post 2 in the event as he looks for win number 11 of the season. Blood Money was the beaten favourite last week and will look to settle the score from post 4 for trainer-driver Campbell.

Also in that Preferred field are Navalny (Adam Merner), Moonwriter (Keith Ford), Burn Out Hanover (Brady Sweet) and Stash It Away (Gilles Barrieau).

The top ladies go at it in race 9 with Dreamfair Zenfire the morning line favourite in the $3,000 Fillies and Mares featured pace. Campbell trains and drives the 47-time winner from post 5 against top foes Acefortyfour Dome (Hughes) and Share The Moment (Barrieau).

Red Shores is launching a new Isle Pick 5 to open up the Boxing Day card with a $1,500 guaranteed pool and low 15% take-out. Players will also enjoy two Super Hi5’s and a late Pik4.
