CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – After a superb performance in his latest start, Cowboy Logic has the outside in the Saturday afternoon top harness racing event at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
Steven Shepherd will drive the Harold Shepherd trained pacer in the $3,200 preferred pace from post 5 in race 11 of the day with all the action starting at 12:30 P.M.
The four-year-old son of Western Ideal has found a winning nose on the wire four times in 2021 with his latest race a 1:53.3 victory with a snappy 27.1 closing panel. Maurice McCabe shares ownership of the horse with Gerard Ellsworth, Angus Birt and George Burke as Cowboy Logic looks to add to his 30 top-three finishes from 49 career starts.
Moonwriter is second choice with post 3 for the team of driver David Dowling and trainer Colin Johnson after a second-place finish to Time To Dance in the Atlantic Breeder’s Crown Invitational pace, individually timed in 1:53.1. Rose Run Quest was fourth in that dash and gets Mark Bradley at the controls this week from post 2.
Silverhill Buddy (To be driven by Jason Hughes) coasts into the event with rail control off of four-straight top-three finishes. Screen Test (Corey MacPherson) is installed as fourth favourite from post 4 as he looks for win number eight of the campaign, with his fastest win of the season coming in 1:52.1 in August at Red Shores Charlottetown.
Peter MacPhee has Screen Test on top of his Post Time Picks. “We loved the way Screen Test raced three back fronting it all the way and scoring in 1:55.1. We’re betting Corey will be aggressive off the wings and have him on or near the lead at the start and finish.”
Mick Dundee (Don MacNeill) is the favourite in the race 5 Sonny Rankin Memorial from post 7. The Twist (Mark Bradley) gets top call in the race 8 Oliver and Sarah Poulton Memorial pace. Bugsy Maguire Heads To Summerside
SUMMERSIDE, PE – Bugsy Maguire will make the trek to Prince County Monday evening and will attempt to best four foes at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway. The Western oval will host 11-dashes on Monday starting at 6:30 P.M., with the preferred pace hitting the track in race 10.
Bugsy Maguire gets top call in that $3,100 event with Corey MacPherson getting the catch driving call for trainer Wade Sorrie and owner Walter Simmons of Summerside from post 4.
The seven-year-old son of Bettor’s Delight has been going toe-to-toe with Time To Dance every week and draws clear of him for Monday’s contest.
Heart And Soul was a winner in last week’s top class with post 2 this week for driver Walter Cheverie and trainer George Riley. The son of Western Paradise boasts 12 top-three finishes from his 15 seasonal starts.
Theycallmedude (To be driven by Adam Merner) has rail control fresh off a second-place finish to Chocolate Swirl (Jason Hughes), who will leave from post 3. Hunger Pangs (Marc Campbell) holds down the outside post 5.
The Backstretch Beat in Monday’s card has Bugsy Maguire as the heavy favourite. “Bugsy Maguire is undeniably the class of the field and gets a driver change with MacPherson placing his feet in the stirrups for this one. He will be a tough one to beat regardless of what kind of trip he gets.”
Racing at Red Shores Summerside is coming into its final weeks and Campbell will attempt to retake the lead in the driver’s standings during Monday’s card. The Orwell driver sits in second place with 42 wins after Hughes took the top spot last week with a four-win performance to put him at 45 victories.
MacPherson is also within striking distance in third place with 39 victories on the season. Campbell already has the lead in the trainer’s race with 18 wins, ahead of second place Ron Gass (15 wins) and Sorrie (12 winners).
