CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Cowboy Logic came calling late but fell short in last week’s preferred pace and will be looking to reignite his winning ways Saturday afternoon at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The capital oval has 10 harness racing dashes slated for a 12:30 P.M. opening post time with the preferred pacers lining up in race 9.
Cowboy Logic will have post 5 in Saturday’s $3,200 featured pace with Steven Shepherd in the bike for trainer Harold Shepherd and owners Maurice McCabe, Angus Birt, George Burke and Gerard Ellsworth.
A four-time winner in 2021, Cowboy Logic closed hard to fall a neck short la westek in 1:55.
Rose Run Quest has post 2 in the class with Kenny Arsenault picking up the drive from the Jeff Holmes stable. McPat and Adam Merner team up from post 3 after the Delmarvalous pacer finished second to Cowboy Logic has last start on Oct. 10.
Peter MacPhee likes Cowboy Logic to win in the Post Time Picks. “Cowboy Logic has been razor sharp the past few weeks and was a winner two starts back in 1:53.3. He’s also on the outside but in a compact field like this we think he overcomes it and is smiling for the camera again.”
Other featured entrants are Nogreatmischief (To be driven by Walter Cheverie) and Chocolate Swirl (Marc Campbell). The Twist is the morning line favourite in race 3 as the pace is in Memory of Jerome Campbell. Don MacNeill will sit behind The Twist from post 6 for trainer Darren Smith of Rocky Point, who co-owns the three-year-old with Jody Sanderson of Cornwall.
The sophomore made a break and finished out of the money his last start but heralded three wins and a second from four Island starts previous to that.
Bugsy Maguire Looks To Double Up In Summerside
SUMMERSIDE, PE – There was no stopping Bugsy Maguire last time out at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway and the pacer will look for more of the same with a different driver Monday evening.
The 13-dash card starts off at 6:30 P.M. and Bugsy Maguire is saddled with post 5 in the race 12 preferred pace carrying a $3,200 purse. Adam Merner is back in the driver’s seat of the son of Bettors Delight for trainer Wade Sorrie and owner Walter Simmons of Summerside.
His last start was a 1:54.4 open-length victory at the Prince County oval in line to Corey MacPherson, but his former driver will opt to sit behind the Ron Gass trained Screen Test from post 4 on Monday evening.
Both Bugsy Maguire and Screen Test have made seven trips to the winner’s circle in the 2021 season.
Filly Forty Seven has rail control in the featured pace after winning her last two starts to remain undefeated since rejoining the Marc Campbell stable. Also in the field are Silverhill Buddy (To be driven by Jason Hughes) and Heart And Soul (Walter Cheverie).
The Backstretch Beat in Monday’s card has Bugsy Maguire pegged for another victory. “Bugsy Maguire romped last time out and today could be more of the same.”
Monday is the second to last card of the season with the racing meet ending on Nov. 1, at the western oval.
Hughes leads the way for the dash title with 45 wins in 2021 in Summerside, ahead of Campbell at 44 wins and MacPherson at 43 wins for a close race for the top title.
Also on the Monday card is the eliminations for the P.E.I. Harness Racing Racing Industry Association Go The Distance series for aged pacers who have earned less than $3,000 in 2021. The series will have eliminations in races 1, 3 and 5 with the top three from each advancing to the $4,000 final on Nov. 1, while the bottom finishers will compete in the $2,500 consolation.
