CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Screen Test guarded the rail and found himself on the wire first in the Saturday night preferred harness racing pace at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
Corey MacPherson was the engineer of the winning trip as the driver was aggressive from the start with Screen Test in the $3,400 preferred pace and controlled the tempo on the lead with fractions of 28.3, 58.1 and 1:27.2.
The Ron Gass trainee found himself under siege in the final panel but hung on for a neck decision in 1:55.1 over Cowboy Logic (Driven by Steven Shepherd) and race favourite Bugsy Maguire (Adam Merner), who finished third.
Kickin Horse Stable of York shares ownership of Screen Test with William Andrew of Calgary. The Mike McGuigan barn clicked for a pair of victories with the trainer in the race bike for the wins. McGuigan won with Check Your Source (1:58) and Woodmere Bankroll (1:59.3).
Trainer Earl Watts notched his 500th career victory when Shadow of a Daut scored in 1:57.3 for driver David Dowling.
Two matinee finals also highlighted the evening card. Intrepidus with driver Chris MacKay won the opening final in 2:10.3 for owner Heather Gamester while driver Brett Clow guided Painted Pony to victory in the second matinee final for owner Raymond White. The time of the mile was 2:03.1
Live racing continues Monday evening at Red Shores Summerside with a 6:30 P.M. opening post time featuring the P.E.I. Colt Stakes for three-year-old pacers, the Atlantic Ages Pacing Mares Series and the Island Oceans Trot Classic.
