SUMMERSIDE, PE – Middleton Terror (Stonebridge Terror) will look to be top dog in the Saturday (July 1) afternoon harness racing feature on a special Canada Day Holiday program at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.
The Western track has a 1 P.M. opening post time for the 12-dash card with Middleton Terror drawing post 6 in the $3,500 top event in race 11. David Dowling trains and drives the son of Stonebridge Terror for owners Frank Balcom and Kingsley Walsh. Middleton Terror has put together a solid season so far with five wins and four seconds from 10 starts in 2023.
Century Invictus has post 5 for trainer-driver Jason Hughes fresh off a 1:54.2 victory his last start. Also in the field are Frontier Cruise (To be driven by Adam Merner), Merito Hanover (Myles Heffernan Sr.), Sauble Attack (Dale Spence) and Dylan Sam (Ken Murphy).
The Backstretch Beat places Middleton Terror in the win column in the Saturday main event.
“Middleton Terror has been handling the very best pacers on the Eastern Seaboard and winning. He is a major threat at any level and with him drawing away from the Invitational crowd we have to place him in the win position today.”
A holiday tradition continues in race 8 with the historic Canada Day Pace with Soccer Hanover the favourite from post 3. Norris Rogers picks up the catch drive for trainer and co-owner Leith Waite and co-owners Les and Spence Waite. His main opponents are newcomer Custards Dungeon (Dowling) and Rymar Jimbo (Murphy).
Race 5 is the Summerside Legion Branch 5 pace with Pickpocketprincess the morning line favourite from post 5 for driver Hughes and owner-trainer Wayne Hubbard.
Stash It Away Looks For Lifetime Win 17
CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – With an outside draw to contend with, Stash It Away will attempt to get it all in the Sunday (July 2) afternoon finale at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The Capital Oval has a 10-dash presentation on the special Sunday afternoon program getting underway at 12:30 P.M.
Gilles Barrieau will drive the Kevin MacLean trained Stash It Away from post 7 in the $3,500 class for owner Reg MacPherson of Stratford. The stakes winning son of Pang Shui is a 16-time winner from 45 lifetime starts and will try to expand his $121,000 bankroll as the 5-2 morning line favourite.
Navalny is a top choice from post 8 from the Melissa Rennie barn with Adam Merner at the lines. Both top choices in the dash find themselves dropping out of the Invitational ranks with their last starts in a $7,500 Cecil Ladner Memorial Invitational event on June 24.
Mr Rielly has rail control for trainer-driver Corey MacPherson after winning his last race in 1:56 while JK Last Chance (To be driven by Kenny Arsenault) returns to P.E.I. with post 2 after racing the Winter Meet in Ontario.
Dr. Mitchell Downey will come from New Brunswick to drive his own Blood Money from post 3 while Best To Hurst (Neil Bambrick) has post 4. Norris Rogers will steer Blue Monk from the Jay Noye stable from post 5 and post 6 has First Glance (David Dowling) for conditioner Jennifer Doyle.
The Post Time Picks like Stash It Away on top.
“Stash It Away faced the bearcats in the Ladner and was charted in 1:52.4. Now he must race from the grandstand side but with Barrieau at the wheel we’re confident he maps out a trip and hits the wire first.”
Matticulous GB is the top choice in the race 5 back-up class for a $3,000 purse. Ken Murphy drives the Colin Johnson trainee for owners Debbie Element and Matt and David Burke. His top rivals are Fern Hill General (Brodie MacPhee) and Rose Run Quest (Merner).
