CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – While live harness racing is set to continue into the New Year, the careers of three pacers will end Friday evening on the final day of their 14-year-old season on a special New Year’s Eve program at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The New Year’s Eve card takes place at 6:30 P.M. on Friday evening with Shiftyn Georgie, Eagle Jolt and Adventure Luck set to make their final laps around the legendary capital oval in pari-mutuel action. Mandatory retirement kicks in for all Standardbreds when they turn 15-years-old with horses automatically aging up a year on Jan. 1.
One retiring pacer is Adventure Luck, who has rail control in race 9 of the evening with Corey MacPherson back in the seat behind the son of Sir Luck for trainer Reece Williams and owner Robert Williams of Ellerslie. The free-legged veteran rides a four-race win streak into the event with 12 wins recorded during 2021.
Eagle Jolt is also a member of the race 9 field from post 3 as he races for the final time of his 14-year-old season for trainer-driver Marc Campbell and owners Marie MacDonald of Stratford and Natasha Campbell of Orwell. The son of Village Jolt has won an incredible 71 races in his career with $460,000 in lifetime earnings.
Race 8 will be the final pari-mutuel dash for Shiftyn Georgie, who will leave from post 5 for trainer-driver Jaycob Sweet who co-owns with Brody Ellis, Susan Thompson and Allison Sweet. The free-legged Rambaran gelding was a 31-time winner in his career and banked over $115,000.
The feature of the night is the race 12 Preferred pace for a $3,400 purse with The Rev the morning line favourite with post 5 for trainer-driver Gilles Barrieau and owners Jeff and Robert Skinner of Nova Scotia. The 49-time winning pacer was a close second last week to Sock It Away, who is absent from competition this week.
Dreamfair Zenfire has rail control in the Preferred class for trainer-driver Campbell while Screen Test (To be driven by MacPherson) has post 2 at 7-2 morning line odds.
Also in the field are Mc Pat (Adam Merner), Ladylike (David Dowling), and Bugsy Maguire (Jason Hughes).
The Race Day broadcast will also feature some 2021 highlights on the special New Year’s Eve program. The pre-game show gets underway at 6 P.M. AST.
