CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – It was Open Trot mastery for harness racing driver Corey MacPherson and his chestnut charge, Windmeredontuworry (Armbro Barrister), in the Saturday afternoon (Dec. 10) Open Trot at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The barn favourite in the former stable of the late Glenn MacKay Jr., who passed away in Nov. of 2021, the 2017 Atlantic Champion trotter was unhurried in the $2,800 Open Trot getting away last in the field as he prepared to light up the tote board at 21-1 odds.
Hallofaride (Jason Hughes) was fired up in the early going, hitting the quarter in 27.3 over a snowy track then caught his wind in the middle half with fractions of 59.1 and 1:31. Windmeredontuworry rallied from the backfield in the final quarter to swing wide and mow down his foes in the stretch for a three-length win in 2:00.4.
Hallofaride finished second with Freddie (Marc Campbell) third to complete the $379.10 triactor ticket in the compact field of five.
WINDMEREDONTUWORRY REPLAY
The ownership papers are held by Leah Ann Moyer of Summerside, wife of the late MacKay, with the 19-time winner now trained by Philip Desroche. He paid $44.00 to win.
MacPherson had three wins on the day as he also scored with Dusty Lane Zendaya (1:58.4) for trainer Alexis Gass and Heatherspet (2:03.4) from the Neil Bambrick barn.
The featured $3,000 Fillies and Mares Preferred pace was all Dreamfair Zenfire (Sunfire Blue Chip) all the way as she stopped the clock in 1:57.2 off the front for trainer-driver Campbell and owners Ryan and Everett MacLeod of Souris. Last week’s winner, Acefortyfour Dome (Hughes), came first-over to finish second ahead of pocket sitter Filly Forty Seven (MacPherson).
