CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Stash It Away (Pang Shui) scooped up his harness racing foes in last week’s Preferred Pace and will aim for a repeat Saturday afternoon (Jan. 7) at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The capital oval has a 15-dash presentation getting underway at 12:30 P.M. with the $3,500 Preferred lining up in race 14.
Stash It Away is the top choice in the morning line from post 3 with Gilles Barrieau in the race bike for trainer Kevin MacLean and owner Reg MacPherson of Stratford. The four-year-old ended off his three-year-old season with a 1:56.2 Preferred score on Dec. 31 over a muddy track from off-the-pace. Blood Money fell short in second in that event as the post time favourite and will be redemption bound from post 4 for trainer-driver Marc Campbell.
Sauble Attack (Bettors Delight) has been acquitting himself well on P.E.I. with a second and third place finish at the Preferred 2 level and will move into the top class this week. Paul Biggar of Tyne Valley co-owns and trains the horse for co-owner Donald Callbeck of Summerside. The connections claimed the five-year-old for $18,000 at Flamboro Downs in Ontario in October. Dale Spence will drive again this week.
Moonwriter has rail control with Keith Ford back in the bike for trainer Colin Johnson while Mantario gets the respect of The Post Time Picks from post 5 for the combination of driver David Dowling and trainer Jennifer Doyle.
“Mantario was flying on the end of it last week and closed out in a snappy 28 seconds. We’ve said it before Dowling won’t panic off the wings but will have him in full flight to track them down late.”
The pacing mares see Preferred action in race 10 for a $3,000 purse with Dreamfair Zenfire the morning line favourite from post 5 for trainer-driver Campbell and owners Ryan and Everett MacLeod of Souris. Elm Grove Mistress had an exceptional 2022 campaign with 13 wins on the year and moves into post 2 for driver Dowling while riding a three-race win streak. Jason Hughes will drive Acefortyfourdome from his own barn with post 6 at 3-1 odds.
Red Shores will continue to offer the new Isle Pick 5 on the first five races with a $1,500 guaranteed pool and low 15% take-out. Players will also enjoy two Super Hi5’s and a late Pik4 on the program.
