CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – The Saturday evening harness racing preferred pace will be a hotly contested affair this week at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The $3,400 event is carded as race 11 on the 12-dash card with the action getting underway at 6 P.M. at the capital oval. Hitman Hill is heralded as the early favourite in the field of five with Kenny Arsenault above the wheels of his trainee from post 3 for owners Kevin Harvey, Anthony Stymest, Rudge Racing and Ken Hardie.
The son of American Ideal will look to build on his 20-lifetime wins and $518,000 in career earnings.
Bugsy Maguire is a top contender from post 1 for driver Adam Merner and trainer Wade Sorrie after cutting out the action last week and fading to fourth in the final strides.
Screen Test is listed at 3-1 morning line odds from post 5 with Corey MacPherson back in the seat of the Ron Gass trainee.
Outkast Blue Chip will look for his first East Coast win from post 2 for the combination of driver Brodie MacPhee and trainer Trevor Hicken, while past preferred pace winner Cowboy Logic has post 4 for driver Steven Shepherd and trainer Harold Shepherd.
Peter MacPhee places Hitman Hill on top of the Post Time Picks.
“Hitman Hill hasn’t had much to cheer about since arriving on the Island but was up against top notch competition. We’re betting Kenny will be aggressive from the hop and if they do set up shop on the point may go right down the highway.”
Red Shores Charlottetown will also host the annual UPEI Panther night at the track. The event attracts players from men’s and women’s hockey, basketball, rugby, volleyball, field hockey and soccer. The human athletes get matched with the equine athletes in races 8 and 9 where the winner takes home a prize from Red Shores.

Hungers Pangs Controls Rail at Summerside
SUMMERSIDE, PE – The last two times Marc Campbell sat behind Hunger Pangs they ended up smiling for their picture and they will try to make it three in the top event on first Monday evening race program at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.
The Prince County oval will host Monday evening cards until the end of the meet with 6:30 P.M. opening post times beginning with a 14-dash card this week.
The top-class lines up in race 13 for a $2,900 purse and Hunger Pangs is the top choice from post 1 with Campbell steering the Blaine McKenna trainee for owner Susanne MacKeigan of Nova Scotia. The son of Pang Shui was second in the top-class last week in Summerside with Jason Hughes at the lines, then was third the start previous for driver Austin Sorrie during Gold Cup Week racing in Charlottetown.
That was the same week that Hunger Pangs and Campbell clicked for a career performance off the rail winning in 1:54.2 to erase his former lifetime best of 1:55.
Soccer Hanover is back in Summerside with post 4 in the feature for driver Corey MacPherson and trainer Leith Waite after a solid second place finish in the mud in Charlottetown his last start.
The Backstretch Beat likes Hunger Pangs to get it all in the top event.
“The last time Hunger Pangs had rail control with Campbell he abolished his previous lifetime best performance while winning in 1:54.2 last month in Charlottetown. If he can land up handy the action from the beginning, he will be incredibly tough to deny.”
Also in the class are Coasttocoastshark (Devon Wallace), Chocolate Swirl (Hughes) and Nogreatmischief (Walter Cheverie).
Bettor Than Cash makes his East Coast debut in the final dash of the card from post 1 for trainer-driver Ambyr Campbell of Charlottetown, who just purchased the pacer from Ontario. The five-year-old son of Betterthancheddar boasts eight lifetime wins, $79,619 in earnings and a mark of 1:52.2 taken over Woodbine Mohawk Park in Ontario.
He is listed at 7-2 morning line odds in his $2,200 Red Shores debut.
