CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – It was grey power all the way in the Sunday afternoon featured harness racing pace as First Glance (Thinking Out Loud) was the best at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
First Glance was pointed to the lead at 14-1 odds in the $3,500 feature by driver David Dowling and never relented as he fired through splits of 27.4, 57.2 and 1:26.3 before fending off the late closing post time favourite Stash It Away (Driven by Gilles Barrieau) in 1:54.2. Third went to JK Last Chance (Kenny Arsenault) to complete the $514.10 triactor ticket. Jennifer Doyle trains First Glance for partner Danny Birt of Earnscliffe.
Rose Run Quest won the $3,000 back-up class in a speedy 1:53.3 for driver Adam Merner, trainer Melissa Rennie and owners Blair and Carl Hansen of Charlottetown and Isaac Schurman of Kensington. Race favourite Matticulous GB (Ken Murphy) had to settle for second ahead of Smart Official (Dowling). It was win number 61 for the iron tough 11-year-old Rose Run Quest and was his fastest winning time in nearly three years since Brodie MacPhee steered him to a 1:52.1 victory in Summerside on Aug. 8, 2020.
Rennie and Merner scored the first half of a training-driving double in race 2 with Impeccable Shadow winning in 1:55.
Live racing continues Thursday evening at 6 P.M. at Red Shores Charlottetown.
