SUMMERSIDE, PE – Former Gold Cup and Saucer harness racing champion Smooth Lou was back to winning form Sunday afternoon (Aug. 4) at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.
The Prince County oval hosted 12-dashes with Smooth Lou going all the way in the $2,750 finale for trainer-driver Corey MacPherson and owner Triple S Equine of Newton, Ont. The 2021 Gold Cup and Saucer champion pounced from post 2 to lay down a 27.2 opener followed by splits of 56.3 and 1:24.4. Final time was 1:53.3 with Howmac Charmer (Driven by David Dowling) second and Bacononabiscuit (Adam Merner) third.
Woodmere Denny (Rollwithitharry) went all the way in the $3,050 race 11 feature in line to Dale Spence for his wife, owner-trainer MacKenzie Spence, in 1:54.4. He was a two-and-three-quarter length winner over Starship Glyde (Dowling) and Howmac Maximus (Damian MacLellan).
Brookdale Johnny (Paul Langille) remains undefeated on P.E.I., after winning his third straight on the Sunday card. The Phil Sizer trainee stopped the clock in 1:56 for owners Doug Polley Sr., and Doug Polley Jr., of Amherst, N.S.
