CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Ladylike (Shadow Play) did everything she had to in the stretch drive to win the Thursday evening (Oct. 13) featured harness racing pace at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The Colin Johnson trained mare took a pocket ride all the way in the $3,000 Fillies and Mares Preferred 2 pace to pop out for the stretch drive and win in 1:55.4 in line to Corey MacPherson for owner Debbie Element of Village Green. Elm Grove Mistress (David Dowling) cut out all the fractions but had to settle for second while Plain Jane (Marc Campbell) came first-over to finish third.
The program also saw Campbell extend his lead in the driver and trainer standings at Red Shores Charlottetown with three driving wins on the evening, two of them from his own Orwell barn.
His first trip to the historic winner’s circle was in race 2 of the evening as Mds Girl went all the way in 1:58.2 from the Keith Ford barn. Campbell then won with his own The Lady Sheriff (1:55) in race 8 and Freddie (1:59.2) in the $2,600 top trot in race 9.
Campbell now sits at 98 driving victories in 2022 at the capital oval and 49 winners as a trainer.
Driver Gilles Barrieau and trainer Ron Matheson hooked up for wins in the opening and closing dashes of the night. Royaltywestho made her return to her native P.E.I. a successful venture rallying from the back to win in 1:57.4 in race 1. The Time To Win captured the race 11 finale in a first-over 1:57.2 win for Barrieau and Matheson.
Live racing continues Saturday afternoon at 12:30 P.M. at Red Shores Charlottetown.
