CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Lady Hess (Heston Blue Chip) has done nothing but impress so far in her rookie harness racing campaign and will look to continue winning Thursday evening (Aug. 8) at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The capital oval has an 11-dash presentation starting at 6 P.M. with two-year-old filly Lady Hess drawing the rail in race 7 of the night.
Adam Merner drives the Jamie Smith trainee for owner Groupof7 Stable of Charlottetown after the rookie broke her maiden on July 11 by over nine-lengths in 1:59.2 over a sloppy track with a 27.2 closing panel. The Pennsylvania sired freshman then followed up that victory on July 17 winning handily in 1:57.4 by five-and-three-quarter lengths in a $19,600 P.E.I. Colt Stakes Gold division.
She is the lone two-year-old in her $2,600 Thursday appearance as she takes on five rivals. Her top competition is slated as three-year-old Rockin In Heaven filly Brookdale Shelley (To be driven by Paul Langille) from post 2 as well as sophomore Bettors Delight filly Century Keyanna (Brodie MacPhee) with post 4.
The Post Time Picks see nothing standing in the way of Lady Hess’ drive for three.
“Lady Hess She’s off to a terrific start in her young racing career and went right down the Red Shores Summerside highway last time. Makes the trek back to Charlottetown and will be on or near the lead at the start and finish.”
Race 5 is the Grant Thornton Pace with Miss Wicked (Corey MacPherson) favoured from post 2 for trainer Joe Baxter and owner Blaine Thibeau of Kensington. The three-year-old McWicked filly won her last two outings including the $16,125 Stanfield Memorial Stake on July 7 in Truro, N.S.
The Fox Group sponsors a pair of dashes on the program in races 9 and 11.
Ill Tell Me Ma (Brett Leblanc) is the top selection in the $2,800 Fox Group Racing Event in race 9 for owner-trainer Scott Dunn of Montague.
The $2,900 Fox Group Racing Event in race 11 has Elm Grove Redwine seeking her third straight for trainer-driver David Dowling and owners Alex Quinn, Carl Peterson and Brittany Dowling.
