CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – The top harness racing mares in Eastern Canada will spar again on the Thursday afternoon Boxing Day program at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The 14-dash Thursday card gets underway at 12:30 P.M., at the capital oval with the featured Fillies and Mares Preferred in race 13.
The $4,050 feature has Sugar Bowl (Sweet Lou) leaving from post 3 for trainer Jeff Holmes and owners Tommy Collings and Brian MacPhee of Mount Stewart. The five-year-old has registered six wins this season and gets the services of driver Gilles Barrieau again this week.
Tobins Brownie (To be driven by Marc Campbell) was the winner in this class last week and leaves from post 2 for trainer Earl Watts. Jennifer Doyle continues her march towards the P.E.I., dash win record of 113 races in a season. She sends out Shake N Blake (David Dowling) from post 4 as she sits at 111 victories in the province in 2024 with only two programs to go in the calendar year.
Also in the field are JM Sportsfan (Steven Shepherd) with rail control and Rosetown Mary (Corey MacPherson) with post 5.
The Post Time Picks like Sugar Bowl from post 3.
“Sugar Bowl was closing in at the wire last week and did fire home in a snappy 28.1. We’re betting Barrieau will have her well spotted off the wings and if that’s how it plays out, she could go one better this week.”
Race 5 is the Boxing Day Pace with Skip Across (Ryan Desroche) the top selection from post 8 for co-owner and trainer Stanley Harper and co-owners Ryan Wilkie and Tara Harper. Her top foes include post 4 starter Azure Beach (Paul Langille) and post 7 entry Century Invictus (Norris Rogers).
