CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – It was Atlantic harness racing history time for Ladylike Thursday evening at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park. The Colin Johnson trainee marched herself to a new track and Atlantic record for aged pacing mares with a 1:53.2 victory in line to David Dowling in the featured $3,100 Fillies and Mares preferred pace.
It was win number 3,499 of Johnson’s training career, while the daughter of Shadow Play isĀ owned by his wife Debbie Element of Village Green.
The victory by Ladylike eclipsed the former 1:53.4 track record for aged pacing mares held by Whitesand Artist and driver Billy Davis Jr., set nearly seven years ago in August of 2014. In Thursday’s bout Dreamfair Zenfire (driven by Marc Campbell) was first off the wings as the post time favourite and slammed down splits of 27.4, 55.4 and 1:24.3 before Ladylike came calling first over.
Ladylike took control of the lead in the final stanza and had to fight back Woodmere Skyroller (Corey MacPherson) in the stretch drive to prevail by a neck in the historic mile. Larjon Legacy (Gilles Barrieau) came off her pocket ride to finish third and complete the $315.60 triactor ticket.
Hop Up led at every station to win the $2,550 featured trot stopping the clock in 1:58.2 for driver MacPherson and owner-trainer Keith Campbell of Victoria West. Glider Man (Jason Hughes) was second ahead of Freddie (Campbell). Total wager was $77,039. For race replays and more go to Redshores.ca. Racing moves to Red Shores Summerside Friday night at 6:00 pm.
