CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – The Marc Campbell show continued Thursday evening (Aug. 22) at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park as the ‘King’ of Island harness racing scored five winners on a program where some track records were rewritten.
On the heels of a huge Old Home Week, Campbell kept the winning going on the Thursday card starting in the race 1 opener with Rollwithitdarling in 1:57 for trainer Devon Wallace. Woodmere Kennedie (1:56.3) supplied another Campbell win in race 4 from the Mike McGuigan stable followed by Last Chance (1:58.3) winning race 7 for trainer Brent Campbell. The next two winners came for trainer Landon Campbell as the elder Campbell steered JJ Scarlett to victory in 1:56.4 in race 11 then Pasta Momma to a race 12 victory in a new aged pacing mares track record of 1:52.2 in the $3,700 Fillies and Mares Preferred Pace.
Brady Doyle shares ownership of Pasta Momma with Ryan and Everett MacLeod as she lowered the former 1:52.3 track record held by Dreamfair Zenfire from 2021, who was also owned by the MacLeod family and driven by Campbell.
The five-win performance by Campbell puts him back in control of the driving standings at 66 wins on the season while former leader David Dowling went winless on the night to remain at 64 victories.
Oceanview Rumours (Driven by Adam Merner) was also track record bound on the program with a 2:00.4 victory for the two-year-old daughter of Green Manalishi S in her $3,200 All Star Cresting Prospect Trot Series race for trainer William Roloson, who owns alongside Scott Roloson and Joey Aylward. The 2:00.4 score erased the former 2:02 track record that Camco Erin set in 2022.
Arete Hanover (Merner) had a maiden breaking score of 2:02.2 in the other All Star Cresting Trot event from the Brendan Curran barn for owner Alby Curran.
The Jennifer Doyle stable continued its dominance of the training standings with three wins on the night from their Earnscliffe outfit. The wins came with Chelski (Damian MacLellan) in 1:55.2 in race 5, Rock N Roll Cays (Jason Hughes) in 1:55.1 in race 8 and Elm Grove Mistress (Hughes) in 1:56.1 in race 9.
Live racing continues Saturday evening at 6 P.M. at Red Shores Charlottetown and Sunday afternoon at Red Shores Summerside with a special two-year-old stakes program.
