SUMMERSIDE, PE – The two-year-old harness racing pacing fillies with strut their stuff Wednesday evening in the Atlantic Sires Stakes at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.
Governor’s Plate Week racing continues that night with a 10-dash card scheduled for a 6:30 P.M. opening post time.
The program features a pair of $16,020 Atlantic Sires Stakes A-divisions for the rookie fillies in races 6 and 8. Race 6 has Woodmere Jazz as the top choice from post 2 with Gilles Barrieau getting the driving call from trainer Kevin MacLean and owner Reg MacPherson of Stratford.
The daughter of Rollwithitharry was a winner in her career debut, stopping the clock in 2:00.4 in a maiden event.
Her top competitors are pegged to be post 4 starter Kinda Like Royalty (To be driven by Walter Cheverie) and Tobins Reward (Darren Crowe). The Backstretch Beat in Wednesday’s card has Kinda Like Royalty selected in the win position. “Kinda Like Royalty’s older full-sister Royaltywestho had an exceptional stakes career in Atlantic Canada with this exact same trainer-driver combo. That last panel in 28 and change in her qualifier is nothing to sneeze at either.
Saltwater Storm earns the title of morning line favourite in the second A-split in race 8. Brodie MacPhee drives the daughter of Stonebridge Terror from the Tom Weatherbie Barn and will be saddled with post 7 for owners Kyle Gardiner, Mike Currie and Jerry MacKinnon.
Other top entrants include Cougar on A Terr (Don Gillis Jr.) and Pangdemonium (Kenny Arsenault). A pair of $3,000 B-divisions will line up in races 2 and 4. Race 9 is the Gentleman Jim’s Pace, in Memory of Cam Cameron, with Selkirk Echo favoured from post 3 with Barrieau in the seat for trainer Ron Matheson and owners Selkirk Stable of Belfast.
