CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – With a season’s best performance directly behind him, Spectrum Seelster will look for more on the Saturday afternoon (July 13) harness racing program at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The Saturday card will commence at 4 P.M., with a 13-dash presentation.
Spectrum Seelster (Mach Three) is the morning line favourite in the race 8 Kenmac Energy Pace for a $3,150 purse from post 5. Leading dash winning driver David Dowling sits behind the 32-time winner for Red Shores Charlottetown leading trainer Jennifer Doyle and owner Danny Birt. The eight-year-old has five wins so far in 2024 but none of them faster than his last race when he prevailed in 1:54.2.
Big Bad Bruiser (To be driven by Corey MacPherson) has the outside post 6 while sporting a three-race win streak for owner-trainer Neil Bambrick of Charlottetown.
Also in the field are JK Last Chance (Kenny Arsenault), Jewels Dragon (Marc Campbell), Tradition (Adam Merner) and Pictonian I Am (Ken Murphy).
The Post Time Picks also likes Spectrum Seelster to win.
“Spectrum Seelster has competed against the best in P.E.I. with successful results prior to that win at this optional $16,000 claiming level last week. He looked like a dominant winner last week so I’m putting him on top.”
Race 6 is the Brent MacDougall Memorial with Cowboy Logic (Steven Shepherd) the top choice from post 2 for trainer Harold Shepherd.
JK Express (Campbell) gets top billing in the race 5 P.E.I. Pride Festival Pace for conditioner Jared Perrot from post 2.
Governor’s Plate Hopefuls Tangle in Summerside
SUMMERSIDE, PE – The finalists will be determined Sunday afternoon for the 56th running of the Governor’s Plate, presented by Summerside Chrysler Dodge, at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.
The Prince County oval has an 11-dash card starting at 1 P.M., with a pair of $8,500 Governor’s Plate eliminations in races 9 and 11 with the top-four from each dash advancing to the $35,000 Governor’s Plate final on July 20. The other finishers will race off in the $12,500 Bob Dewar Governor’s Plate Consolation on July 19.
Bee Two Bee (Sunshine Beach) is the favourite in the first $8,500 elimination in race 9 for the combination of tra
iner Ashley Gamester, owner Donald MacRae of Vernon Bridge and catch driver Ken Murphy. The seven-year-old was a winner in his return to P.E.I., on June 29 as he toured Red Shores Charlottetown in 1:52.4. He has post 5 Sunday.
He faces six rivals including Island Beach Boy (To be driven by Brodie MacPhee) from post 1, Middleton Terror (David Dowling) with post 2, Time To Dance (Marc Campbell) from post 3, Batterup Hanover (Paul Langille) leaving from post 4, Rollwithhottytoddy (Myles Heffernan Sr.) being guided from post 6 and Blood Money (Gilles Barrieau) drawing post 7.
The Backstretch Beat has Bee Two Bee as the most probable winner of the day.
“It’s hard to dream up any scenario where the road to the winner’s circle doesn’t go through Bee Two Bee in this first elimination.”
The second $8,500 elimination in race 11 will see defending Governor’s Plate Champion Roll Em have post 3 for owners Ryan MacLeod and Savage Stable of Souris, Brady Doyle of Stratford and trainer Brent Campbell of Charlottetown. Marc Campbell drives the 32-time winner as he comes into the race fresh off a 1:53.1 score in the $7,500 Lindsay Cup at Truro Raceway in Nova Scotia.
Walter Dale Invitational winner All Bets On Tex (Murphy) has rail control in the field of seven along with post 2 starter Saulsbrook Ian (Corey MacPherson), Fern Hill General (MacPhee) from post 4, Malignity (Langille) with post 5, One Eight Hundred (Dr. Mitchell Downey) from post 6 and Twin B Tuffenuff (Barrieau) rounding out the field with post 7.
The Backstretch Beat likes Roll Em to visit the winner’s circle.
“Roll Em toyed with his rivals in the Lindsay Cup in Truro and with a solid post on the starting gate this afternoon he will be hard to beat again. The final four spots for the Governor’s Plate Final will be decided in here and no question he is the favourite to defend his crown.”
The program also features Ruby Chappell Memorial Open Mares Eliminations for $4,500 in races 6 and 8 with the top four from each advancing to the July 20 final.
