CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – With another world class program of harness racing coming down the pipes, Rollwithhottytoddy (Rollwithitharry) will set his sights on the lion’s share of the P.E.I. Colt Stakes Graduates Series Gold Final, presented by Kays Wholesale, Saturday evening (Aug. 31) at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The $13,000 Gold Final will line up in race 13 with Governor’s Plate runner-up Rollwithhottytoddy the top choice from post 6 with Myles Heffernan Sr., in the race bike for owner and trainer Trevor Hicken of Montague. The pacer is a six-time winner this season with his season’s best performance of 1:53.4 coming last week at Red Shores Charlottetown.
Fern Hill General (To be driven by Brodie MacPhee) has rail control from the Tom Weatherbie barn after cutting out the early action last week in leg two of the series.
The Post Time Picks takes post 4 starter Saulsbrook Ian (Corey MacPherson) to win as he looks to stay flat after breaks in his last two races.
“Saulsbrook Ian is looking to atone for back-to-back breaks. He bounced back with two wins after making a break on July 14th so I’m betting trainer Jamie Smith makes the needed adjustments, and he gets back to his winning ways.”
Also in the Gold Final field are Middleton Terror (David Dowling), Island Beach Boy (Adam Merner) and Malignity (Paul Langille).
The $10,000 P.E.I. Colts Stakes Grassroots final, also presented by Kays Wholesale, hits the track in Race 9 as Impeccable Shadow looks to build off his 1:54.2 victory in leg two of the series for driver Merner, trainer and co-owner Melissa Rennie and co-owners Dale and Ronnie Rennie Inc. Howmac Charmer (Langille) is a top play with post 8 while riding a two-race win streak and Howmac Maximus (Damian MacLellan) is 7-2 on the morning line from post 3.
Dollys Sky takes on the Boys at Summerside
SUMMERSIDE, PE – After pacing her way to a lifetime best performance on Aug. 14, Dollys Sky (Dali) is back at her home track and takes on the Monday afternoon (Sept. 2) feature on a special Labour Day presentation at Red Shores at Summerside Raceway.
The Prince County oval has 14-dashes starting at 1 P.M. on Monday with the $3,000 featured pace lining up in race 13.
Kyle Desroche trains and drives the morning line favourite Dollys Sky, who returns to her home region of Western P.E.I., this week with post 2 for owner Vance MacMillan of West Cape. The eight-year-old mare has hit the board in her last four starts against pacing mares including a 1:56.1 lifetime best at Red Shores Charlottetown as she scored an off-the-pace victory.
Veteran pacer Hunger Pangs has post 5 from the Blaine McKenna barn with Brady Sweet getting the catch driving call as the 3-1 second choice on the morning line.
Starshipzodiac provided a 10-1 upset in his latest start and retains the services of leading Red Shores Summerside driver David Dowling from post 6 for trainer Reece Williams.
Freemans Legacy (To be driven by Jaycob Sweet) holds down post 1 as the three-year-old son of Pang Shui takes another crack at aged company.
Also in the field are Doc Awesome (Paul Langille), Screen Test (Corey MacPherson) and Sauble Attack (Ken Murphy).
The Backstretch Beat likes Hunger Pangs to win.
“Hunger Pangs has been facing some top pacers and garnering a cheque every week. With 24 wins and a mark of 1:54.2 he has the back class to get the job done at virtually any level and we think he’ll find these to his liking. We’ll play him on top.”
Bump In The Road is the favourite in the race 14 finale for a $2,300 purse. Brett Leblanc drives the Sportswriter mare from the Chris Davies barn. Driver Leblanc co-owns the 14-time winner with Joel Leblanc and Lisa Marie Leblance of Nova Scotia.
One of her main foes in Shes Rockandfame (Dowling) who tied all distaffers in Canada for wins in 2023 with 15 victories last season from the Mike Dowling stable.
