CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – With $21,700 on the line in Saturday afternoon’s Joe O’Brien Memorial Gold division for two-year-old harness racing pacing colts, Stash It Away will look to live up to his name at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The capital track has 14-dashes scheduled for the afternoon with a 12:30 P.M. opening post time.
Stash It Away will bring his three-race win streak into race 9 in the first O’Brien Gold division for rookie colts. Corey MacPherson is at the lines of the son of Pang Shui for trainer Kevin MacLean and owner Reg MacPherson of Stratford.
Stash It Away has won five of his eight lifetime races and has post 6 on Saturday.
Peter MacPhee likes Stash It Away to get the lion’s share of the first O’Brien Gold division in his Post Time Picks. “Stash It Away has really starting to turn it on and has three straight wins over three different Maritime tracks. He also took his record two back at this track and has over $33,000 in the bank so get ready for another trip to the winner’s circle.”
St Charlesfireball is the top choice in his $21,700 O’Brien Gold division in race 12 for trainer-driver Marc Campbell and owners Ryan and Everett MacLeod of Souris. The son of Tobago Cays has banked over $26,000 so far in his rookie campaign and will leave from post 4 on Saturday.
The two-year-old colts have a lone grassroots division in race 3 with $10,375 at stake. JJ Scarlett (To be driven by Redmond Doucet) and Mermaid Magic (Brodie MacPhee) will hook up again in a $19,820 Lady Slipper Gold division for two-year-old pacing fillies in race 7.
The duo last saw each other on Sept. 12, in Charlottetown when Mermaid Magic prevailed by half-a-length to set a new 1:55.4 rookie filly track record in a division of the P.E.I. Colt Stakes.
The other $19,820 Lady Slipper Gold split is in race 11 as Woodmere Jazz is the morning line favourite from post 4 for the team of trainer MacLean and owner MacPherson with David Dowling picking up the catch drive. Two-year-old pacing filly grassroots divisions take to the track for $9,675 in races 2 and 5.
The $3,400 preferred pace lines up in race 13 as Time To Dance (Campbell) is favoured in a field that includes Screen Test (MacPherson) and Bugsy Maguire (Adam Merner). Dreamfair Zenfire Looks For Atlantic Pacing Mares CrownĀ
SUMMERSIDE, PE – Dreamfair Zenfire will have a compact field to contend with as she defends her Atlantic Aged Pacing Mares title Sunday afternoon at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.
The 14-dash Sunday card kicks off at 1 P.M. featuring the Atlantic Aged Pacing Mares Series final, presented by Standardbred Canada, in race 10. The $15,617 event has only four other mares brave enough to take on 1:52.3 Red Shores Charlottetown track record holder Dreamfair Zenfire.
The favoured mare leaves from post 4 in the field for trainer-driver Marc Campbell and owners Ryan and Everett MacLeod of Souris. Her foes are Ladylike (To be driven by David Dowling), Arc Light (Jason Hughes), Larjon Legacy (Gilles Barrieau) and Woodmere Skyroller (Corey MacPherson) on her quest for a second consecutive title.
The Backstretch Beat places Dreamfair Zenfire on top for Sunday’s card.
“Has marked herself as the fastest lass to ever grace the Eastern Seaboard of Canada and was mighty impressive winning her last start. With Campbell returning to the race bike this looks like the day that the ‘King’ crowns this mare a two-time Queen.”
Three-year-old pacing filly Mystifying will make the final Lady Slipper Gold start of her career in race 9 with a healthy $23,100 purse at play for the sophomores. Barrieau drives the Atlantic record holding filly off the rail for trainer and co-owner Darryl MacLean and co-owners Gordon MacLean and Stephen Downey.
Tobins Brownie will have her work cut out in the other $23,100 Lady Slipper Gold division in race 12 as the heavy favourite is saddled with post 8 for trainer-driver Dowling and owners Alex Quinn, Brittany Watts, Amy Lakie and Carl Peterson.
The lone $11,575 Lady Slipper grassroots division for sophomore fillies lines up in race 2. The afternoon card has $12,350 Lady Slipper two-year-old trot divisions in races 1 and 3.
The three-year-old trotters battle in Lady Slipper splits in races 5 and 7 with $12,115 purses in each.
