CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – After racing hard with the top harness racing pacers in Prince County her last two starts, Filly Forty Seven returns to the capital oval against her fellow gals Saturday afternoon at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
Saturday afternoon has a 14-dash program starting off at 12:30 P.M. featuring the Fillies and Mares preferred pace in race 13. Filly Forty Seven has post 2 in the class after racing the Horse and Gelding preferred pace at the Summerside Raceway her last two starts against pacing horses.
The Marc Campbell trained and driven daughter of Proven Lover was second both those tries being beat by Invitational pacers Bugsy Maguire and Screen Test. The 40-time winning mare is owned by Alan MacDonald, Cory Carver and Katelyn Smallwood.
Ladylike is the morning line favourite off the rail in the $3,100 class with David Dowling driving for trainer Colin Johnson. The field also includes Do U Mind (To be driven by Mark Bradley), Larjon Legacy (Adam Merner) and The Time To Win (Ken Murphy).
Peter MacPhee says Ladylike is the one to beat as he places her on top of the Post Time Picks. “Ladylike has put together a tidy season and already has five wins on her resume. Don’t forget she was a former track record holder and can really fly home, so we say Dowling gets her to the winner’s circle again.”
The card also has $5,000 divisions of the P.E.I. Harness Racing Industry Association Fall Challenge Series in races 5, 6 and 9 as well as P.E.I.H.R.I.A. Autumn Series divisions in races 2 and 3. Both series are for four-year-old and younger non-winners pacers.
Southwind Arturo returns to P.E.I. in the race 1 trot after a season racing the stakes circuit in New Jersey. The two-year-old son of Muscle Hill finds himself back in the Campbell barn after trotting in 1:56 his last start over Freehold Raceway’s half-mile oval.
MC PAT LOOKS FOR MORE SUNDAY AT CHARLOTTETOWN
CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Mc Pat has been the boss in Charlottetown the last two weeks and will search for his third straight in the Sunday afternoon top event at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The 14-dash Sunday card starts off at 12:30 P.M., with the preferred pace headlining the card in race 13. The $3,400 preferred class will see Mc Pat from post 3 after wins his last two races for the combination of driver Adam Merner and trainer Gilles Barrieau.
The Delmarvalous pacer is co-owned by Everette Hanson and Donald Stevenson of New Brunswick and currently has six wins in 2021. Dreamfair Zenfire makes the step up from the girls to take on the boys in this race after a 1:55.2 win her last start in the Fillies and Mares preferred and will leave from post 4 this week for trainer-driver Marc Campbell. Bugsy Maguire prevailed in the preferred class on the closing card of the Red Shores
Summerside season and will get post 2 on Sunday with Dale Spence picking up the drive for trainer Wade Sorrie. From the far outside is post 7 starter Moonwriter, fresh off a near miss for win his last start in 154.4 to Mc Pat as he finished second by a neck. David Dowling is at the lines of the Colin Johnson trainee.
The Post Time Picks in Sunday’s card has Mc Pat as the top choice in the top-level pace. “Mc Pat knocked off the top pacers his last two starts and with Merner staying at the lines we see this as a solid chance for three straight.”
Also in the preferred field are Screen Test (To be driven by Corey MacPherson), Cowboy Logic (Steven Shepherd) and Chocolate Swirl (Jason Hughes).
The trainer and driver races are far from a foregone conclusion at the city track with Campbell leading all trainers with 43 wins but Ron Matheson in close pursuit at 40 victories in 2021. Barrieau, who been out of commission from a racing accident the last month, is still the leading driver with 106 winners but Campbell is closing in with 100 wins this season.
