CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Filly Forty Seven will take on the top girls in the Saturday afternoon finale during Horse Person’s Day, presented by the P.E.I. Standardbred Horse Owner’s Association, at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The Horse Person’s Day program kicks off at 12:30 P.M. with the featured Fillies and Mares preferred pace in
race 12 sponsored by Woodmere Farms. The program also features the Paul MacDonald Memorial Driving Championship with eight drivers competing for the annual trophy.
The competition takes place in races 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9 and 10 with the top point earner on the day being crowned champion with the field including drivers Marc Campbell, Jason Hughes, David Dowling, Adam Merner, Corey MacPherson, Steven Shepherd, Ambyr Campbell and Donnie MacNeill.
Filly Forty Seven will look to be the boss in the afternoon finale leaving from post 5 in the $3,100 event from the Campbell stable with Hughes getting the catch driving call for owners Alan MacDonald, Cory Carver and Katelyn Smallwood.
The former Atlantic Triple Crown winning daughter of Proven Lover was a winner her last start in 1:55.3 in this class then was scratched from competition last week.
Campbell will drive stablemate Arc Light from post 4 in the class after the daughter of Camystic has been absent from competition since Oct. 28. Better Be In Love scored an upset in this field last week and has post 3 with Dale Spence picking up the catch drive for trainer Brendon Mullen.
Peter MacPhee likes Filly Forty Seven to visit the winner’ circle in the afternoon finale.
“Filly Forty Seven was scratched sick last time but prior to that was a wire to wire winner in 1:55.3. We’re wagering ‘the Blue Knight’ will have her on or near the lead from the word go and if that’s the case they’ll be tough to reel in.”
Also in that featured field are Do U Mind (Mark Bradley), Ms Moyse (Merner), The Time To Win (Ken Murphy) and Ladylike (Dowling). Catch all the action live at the track or tune into the worldwide broadcast at Redshores.ca.

‘Bugsy’ Takes on Campbell pacers
Ā CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Bugsy Maguire got the best of Time To Dance in their last matchup but the Wade Sorrie trainee will have to deal with a pair of Marc Campbell trainees to score victory in this Sunday’s preferred pace at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The capital oval has 13-dashes scheduled for Sunday afternoon with a 12:30 P.M. opening post time.
The featured $3,400 preferred pace lines up in race 12 with last week’s winner, Bugsy Maguire, saddled with post 3 for the combination of driver Dale Spence and trainer Sorrie for owner Walter Simmons of Summerside.
The Bettors Delight pacer was forwardly placed last week and never allowed Time To Dance to challenge him on his way to a 1:57 win over a sloppy track. This week the Campbell stable has two top entries in the class with Time To Dance (To be driven by Campbel) leaving from post 6 while track record holding pacing mare Dreamfair Zenfire (Jason Hughes) has rail control.
Also in the field are top pacers Moonwriter (David Dowling), Screen Test (Corey MacPherson) and Hunger Pangs (Adam Merner).
Sunday’s Post Time Picks have Time To Dance returning to the winner’s circle.
“Last week certainly wasn’t the first time Time To Dance has been beat after having some time off but he always comes back swinging the next start. With that second-place finish under his belt it’s time for a new win streak to start rolling.”
Freddie is the morning line favourite in the race 6 Open trot for trainer-driver Campbell. The $2,700 class also has Suicide Shift (Steven Shepherd), Glider Man (Merner), Daisy River (Hughes) and Osprey Delta (Walter Cheverie).
Adventure Luck is the favourite in race 7 named The Joyriders Pace. MacPherson drives the Reece Williams trainee from posy 8 as the 14-year-old pacer ticks down the weeks until his mandatory retirement on New Year’s Eve.
