Rockemsockem Scott (Rockin Amadeus) avoided a traffic jam on the first turn and went on to upset as the longest shot in the Winners-Over Pace at Inverness Raceway on Wednesday (Jul. 13).
J Gs Fireball (Rodney Gillis) broke stride from second midway through the first turn and caused a chain reaction, stopping all three horses behind her. Betterthanbutter (Zachary Mullins) was already out front and streaked away to a big lead while Rockemsockem Scott avoided the confusion and closed the gap to two-and-a-half lengths by the quarter in :30.2.
The field bunched back up quickly, and J Gs Fireball rolled first-over but began fading by the half in 1:01.2. John Kennedy kicked out the plugs on Rockemsockem Scott at three-quarters in 1:30.1 and pulled him out on the final turn. The gelding rallied down the lane and fought past Betterthanbutter for a 1:59.1 victory.
Betterthanbutter was a length-and-a-quarter back in second. This Old Millie (Redmond Doucet) finished third. The winner returned $22.70.
