Two-year-old Big Jim filly Jenny Longlegs dropped two seconds in her second straight harness racing victory against older horses to begin her career at Rideau Carleton Raceway on Thursday (Jul. 4).
Guy Gagnon, in one of his four driving wins on the day, put her on top and cut fractions of :28.1, :59.2, and 1:27.3. Horizon Seelster (Marie-Claude Auger), who was second to her in her debut, was able to test the leader down the stretch. The pocket-sitter narrowed the gap to three-quarters-of-a-length, but Jenny Longlegs held her off to score in 1:57. Pizzazz Hanover (Sam Fillion) was third.
JENNY LONGLEGS REPLAY
Jenny Longlegs is perfect in two starts for Gagnon, who trains the two-year-old. The filly, bred by Woodbine Mohawk Park announcer Ken Middleton, sold for $20,000 at the London Classic sale to Gestion Louis Latulippe of Saint-Ferreol-les-Neiges. She has earned $6,000 in her two wins.
The card also saw the first victory of Ripped And Ready (Muscle Mass, Pascal Berube) since 2022. The stallion was a bona fide Preferred contender week-to-week from 2021 to 2022 but made just one start last season. He made three starts at the trackās top level with a show finish as his best result before stepping down to upper-level conditions. The seven-year-old, trained by Thierry Vandenplas for Dr. Ruth Irving, is now 20-for-61 lifetime with $208,966 in earnings.
RIPPED AND READY REPLAY
The next program at Rideau Carleton Raceway is set for Sunday, Jul. 7 with a first post of 6:30 p.m. EDT.
