Sailor Blue hangs tough in Open Trot

CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Hanging on by the narrowest of margins, Sailor Blue (Armbro Barrister) landed on the wire first in the Thursday evening (Jul. 21) Open Trot at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

Harness racing driver Ken Murphy hustled Sailor Blue to the lead in the $2,800 Open Trot and led through splits of 29, 58.4 and 1:28.3 while Jessiejesorjessica (Driven by David Dowling) bided her time in second. Jessiejesorjessica angled out in the stretch drive, but Sailor Blue battled back to win by a whisker in 1:57.3 with Freddie (Marc Campbell) third.

Jeff Holmes trains Sailor Blue for owners Cindy and Ambyr MacDonald and Yossi Martonovich of Montague.

Campbell scored three wins on the evening program with The Lady Sheriff (Southwind Lynx, 1:56.4) from his own barn, Elm Grove Penney (Stonebridge Terror, 1:56.1) for trainer Melissa Rennie and Maggiedelight (Steelhead Hanover, 1:56.4) for Michelle Myers.

Jason Hughes also celebrated a driving triple after visiting the winner’s circle with Hallofaride (Angus Hall, 2:01.1) for trainer Janice Hubbard, Glider Man (Yankee Glide, 1:58.1) from the Jennifer Doyle barn and Roses For Jennie (Pang Shui, 1:59.2) from his own Charlottetown stable.

Driver Gilles Barrieau and trainer Ron Matheson teamed up for two winners with Tobins Wish (Stonebridge Terror, 1:56.2) and Ms Patricia Bea (Betterthancheddar, 1:58.2).

Live racing continues Saturday evening at Red Shores Charlottetown with a 6:30 P.M. opening post time while Red Shores Summerside will host a special Harness The Hope program Sunday afternoon at 1 P.M.
