Saulsbrook Victor (Source Of Pride) overcame post 10 to reclaim the Woodbine Mohawk Park harness racing pacing crown in the $36,000 Preferred-Handicap on Saturday (Oct. 26).
Brett MacDonald slotted his gelding in fourth as Fortify (Tyler Borth), last weekās winner, dictated the tempo in a :26.1 first quarter. Saulsbrook Victor pulled out and brushed to the lead on the backstretch, seizing control at the half in :55 and racing through three-quarters in 1:22.4.
He neutralized the first-over Taurasi (Scott Young) down the stretch, leaving Fortify to attack from the pocket. The latter clawed to within a half-length by mid-stretch, but Saulsbrook Victor edged away again to complete the victory in 1:50.
Fortify held onto second over the surging American History (Dale Spence).
SAULSBROOK VICTOR REPLAY
Saulsbrook Victor has now won three of his past four starts, including a conditioned event on a trip to Pocono Downs. Ron MacDonald trains the gelding, a six-time winner in 25 starts this season, for Brett MacDonald and Brent Maclennan. The six-year-old has won 26 times and earned $588,705 in 103 career appearances.
With several of the circuitās top drivers away at The Meadowlands for the Breeders Crown, Trevor Henry flourished with five wins. The reinsman scored with Wallace Hartley (Lazarus N, 1:53), Wildcat Star (Bettors Delight, 1:52.4), Momas Son Byrne (Sunshine Beach, 1:50.3), Zebs Krafty (Betterthancheddar, 1:53.1), and Sometime Somewhere (Somebeachsomewhere, 1:49.4). None of the races were close ā Henryās smallest margin of victory on the night was three-and-three-quarter lengths.
Racing will resume at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Monday, Oct. 28 at 7:10 p.m. EDT. The 11-race program will feature three divisions of the Harvest Series and a Preferred Trot.
