Scene A Magician (Daylon Magician) rebounded from a fifth-place effort last week with a wire-to-wire harness racing victory in the Preferred Trot at The Raceway at the Western Fair District on Tuesday (Mar. 21).
Garrett Rooney got to work behind the gelding as the wings opened and ensured the top spot going into the first turn. The quarter went in :27.4, followed by a :58.1 half, when Treasured Tee (Austin Sorrie) raced up to attack the leader.
Scene A Magician stretched his legs to three-quarters in 1:27.1 and caused Treasured Tee to capitulate on the final turn. With only Eyes of Justice (Tyler Borth) in striking distance, Scene A Magician stormed home to score in 1:56.4.
Eyes Of Justice sat the pocket and collected a place cheque while narrowing the margin to one length. Sizzlen Hot Herbie (Natasha Day) rallied for third.
SCENE A MAGICIAN REPLAY
It was a strong recovery from Scene A Magician, who started last and finished fifth on Mar. 14. The gelding now has 30 career wins in 135 tries and $360,081 in the bank. Jennifer Pinkerton of Mount Brydges owns and trains the nine-year-old.
The evening also saw Bucktober (Flanagan Memory) extend his winning streak to seven. The gelding, who began his streak on Jan. 20, took another in front-stepping fashion in his fastest time so far this year of 1:59.4. Tyler Borth drives, trains, and co-owns the four-year-old with William Borth and Karen Sparling. The four-year-old is now 14-for-29 lifetime and has earned $71,658.
