Sea Laird (Custard The Dragon) unleased a monster harness racing effort to capture the Preferred-Handicap Pace at The Raceway at the Western Fair District on Monday (May 8).
Hung wide entering the first turn, Tyler Borth was forced to issue marching orders to the gelding, who race fourth on the rim at the quarter in :27.3. He made headway in the second quarter and was level with the pocket-sitter by the half in :57.1.
Sea Laird gained further in the third panel under insistence from Borth and was threatening to take over at three-quarters in 1:26.2. Leader Bugsy Maguire (Austin Sorrie) battled through the final turn and was stubborn into the stretch, but the unstoppable Sea Laird got up in the last 1/16th of a mile to prevail in 1:55.4.
Ideal Perception (Anthony Haughan) gained five positions down the lane to finish second after a three-wide move. Cheddar Bay (J. Bradley Harris) got up for show.

Sea Laird is now 27-for-131 lifetime and has earned $225,495. Terry Gallant conditions the gelding for Stacy Smith Robinson of South Mountain.
