Sea Laird (Custard The Dragon) led his Preferred Pace rivals from start to finish to win the top harness racing class at The Raceway at the Western Fair District on Monday (Mar. 6) for the second start in a row.
Tyler Borth commanded the gelding to blast to the front from post six and set :28, :58.2, and 1:28.3 fractions. Odds-on favourite Ideal Perception (Anthony Haughan) loomed first-up in the third quarter, but Sea Laird turned that rival away on the final turn and hustled home to score in 1:56.1. Rose Run Vortex (Travis Henry) chased the winner home but fell two lengths short. Devils Peak (Brett MacDonald) narrowly took third.
SEA LAIRD REPLAY
Sea Laird is perfect at the Preferred level at London so far this season with three wins from three attempts. His first and second victories were separated by a pair of losses at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Jan. 28 and Feb. 4. Terry Gallant trains the seven-year-old for Steacy Robinson of South Mountain. The gelding has won 26 of his 125 lifetime starts and has brought in $214,545 in earnings.
The Raceway at the Western Fair District continues its schedule on Tuesday, Mar. 7 at 5:50 p.m. EST. A Preferred Trot highlights the 10-race offering.
