CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – After a brief Governor’s Plate Week hiatus, live harness racing returns to Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park Thursday evening (July 25) featuring the P.E.I. Colt Stakes Graduate Series.
The capital oval has a 14-dash presentation starting at 6 P.M., with the highlight of the card in race 13 with a Gold division of the P.E.I. Colt Stakes Graduate Series, presented by JD Marine and Diving Inc.
The series is for Maritime Foaled four, five and six-year-old pacing mares with the newly added Gold level of the series starting off in race 13 for a $5,500 purse.
Rosetown Mary (Pang Shui) is the morning line favourite from post 5 for trainer-driver Corey MacPherson and owners Rosetown Stable and Taylor MacPherson. The four-year-old had transitioned well into her aged career with three wins, six seconds and a third from 10 starts.
Six-year-old pacing mare Tobins Brownie is fresh off a victory in the Ruby Chappell Memorial Open Mares Final at Red Shores Summerside and has post 3 for trainer-driver David Dowling as she looks for career win number 35.
Also in the competitive field are four-year-old Artspeak mare Redlandbethanyjean (To be driven by Brodie MacPhee) from post 1, five-year-old Source Of Pride mare Therealpriness (Mike Downey) with post 2 and six-year-old Shadow Play mare Plain Jane (Marc Campbell) from post 4.
The Grassroots divisions of the P.E.I. Colt Stakes Graduate Series line up in races 8 and 11 for $4,300 purses for non-winners of $50,000 lifetime as of Dec. 31, 2023.
Irish Ray is favoured in the Island Oceans Trot Challenge, presented by Burkie By The Bay Stables, in race 12 for driver Campbell, trainer Landon Campbell and owner Fred MacDonald of Kingston. His main foes in the $5,300 event are Windmeredonturworry (MacPherson) and New Legacy (Jason Hughes).
Race 5 is The Fox Group Racing Event pace which has Outrageous Song (Gilles Barrieau) the top selection from post 7 from the Ron Matheson stable for owner Shirley Weeks.
