Jackies Boy (Tobago Cays) handed Tobins Chester his first defeat in eight starts in a track record-breaking victory in the Barrieau-McIsaac Memorial Stake elimination on Friday (Aug. 23) at Woodstock Raceway.
Jackies Boy, driven by Myles Heffernan, took command early and had the first half his was in :28.2 and :58.2 fractions. Tobins Chester (Jason Hughes) kicked off the action by popping the pocket coming down the backstretch, and the pair battled through three-quarters in 1:27.2. Jackies Boy held a half-length advantage into the stretch and gutted it out to the finish to win by a neck in 1:56. Allaboutthecash (Brady Sweet) finished third, followed by Merigo Magic (Adam Merner).
JACKIES BOY REPLAY
Jackies Boy had lost to Tobins Chester five times this season before Fridayās win. Heffernan trains, owns, and bred Jackies Boy, who is now 10-for-19 lifetime with every victory in stakes competition. The gelding crossed into six digits in earnings with the latest tally and earned a new lifetime mark.
The 1:56 mile knocked a full second off the previous track record for a three-year-old pacer, set by Speed Snip last year.
The final of the Barrieau-McIsaac is set for Aug. 30, which will be the next card at Woodstock.
