Shark Week’s (Vertical Horizon) seven-race winning streak ended last week, but the harness racing stallion quickly regained his footing and got back to victory lane on Saturday (Jan. 28) at Century Mile.
The five-year-old went wire-to-wire for the seventh time in eight starts. He was on top for Michael Hennessy through :28, :59.4, and 1:30.1 fractions and outkicked the pocket-popping Samba Beat (Phil Giesbrecht) to score by two lengths in 1:57.1. Last week’s winner, Outlaw Gunsablazin (Brandon Campbell) nipped Samba Beat for place.
SHARK WEEK REPLAY
It was Shark Week’s 22nd career win in 53 starts. He has earned $214,605 for owners Lorne Duffield of Edmonton and Rodney Hennessy of Falun, the latter of which trains the stallion.
Also on the card Electric Amadeus (Rockin Amadeus) remained undefeated in 2023 while stepping up to the Fillies and Mares Preferred 2. The mare closed six lengths in the last eighth of a mile, rocketing by five foes to improve her record to four-for-four in 1:59.1. This gave Thomas Miller his first driving victory since 2019. Brinsley Brooking Lutz trains Electric Amadeus, a seven-year-old mare who has now won 12 of her 40 career starts and has earned $40,930. Brooking Lutz co-owns her with Harvey Jaeger of Airdrie.
ELECTRIC AMADEUS REPLAY
