In High Cotton (Somebeachsomewhere) extended her top-level harness racing win streak with a victory in the Fillies and Mares Preferred Handicap at Fraser Downs on Thursday (Apr. 18).
Kelly Hoerdt hustled her to the top from post six, and the mare went by Grey Sea (John Abbott) to take over passing the quarter in :27.3. In High Cotton got a pressure-free middle half, putting up panels of :57.3 and 1:26.3 and turning for home on top.
Grey Sea attempted a rally coming down the stretch, but In High Cotton held her to marginal gains while finishing off the victory in 1:55.2.
Grey Sea was second by a length. Hottieonthehorizon (Dave Hudon) finished third after a three-hole trip.
IN HIGH COTTON REPLAY
In High Cotton has won three Preferred-level races in a row at Fraser Downs for Hoerdt, who trains and co-owns her with Blair and Erna Corbeil of Leduc. The six-year-old has racked up 23 wins and $223,317 in career earnings in 94 outings.
Also on the card, Kootenay Cocoa (Beren Hanover, Tyson Jacoby) won her 10th race in 11 lifetime starts in an eight-length demolition of her opponents. She led throughout and began separating from the field at three-quarters en route to a lifetime-best clocking of 1:53.2.
KOOTENAY COCOA REPLAY
The filly debuted in September 2023 and was unbeaten in eight starts until her first defeat on Mar. 28. She is now 10-for-11 with $34,750 in earnings for Robert and Barbara Chadwick of Surrey. Kyle Chadwich trains the three-year-old.
Fraser Downs will see racing next on Friday, Apr. 18 with a 10-race card beginning at 7:00 p.m. PDT. A Preferred will feature on the evening.
