SUMMERSIDE, PE – Track conditions were no deterrent for Mantario as he wired the Tuesday (June 6) evening feature harness racing event at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.
Under the command of David Dowling, Mantario controlled the $3,600 Preferred 2 pace for every step of the mile on the wet night with a sloppy track listed three-seconds off. The Jennifer Doyle trainee was on top through splits of 30.3, 1:02.3, 1:32 and 2:01 to defeat second place Moonwriter (Driven by Ken Murphy) and Mr Rielly (Corey MacPherson). Doyle co-owns the winning pacer with Danny Birt of Earnscliffe.
Driver Dowling and trainer Doyle also captured the evening finale with newcomer Big Boy Hill with a 2:01.3 effort.
Duane MacEachern scored a pair of wins from his barn, both driven by Jason Hughes. The pair clicked with Doc Awesome (2:03.2) in race 2 and Azure Beach (2:02.1) in race 3.
Now Showing had the fastest win on the night touring the rain-soaked oval in 1:57.4 in line to MacPherson for trainer Leith Waite, who co-owns the three-year-old son of Captaintreacherous with Les and Spencer Waite and Jim Gorman. The sophomore has been undefeated in four straight starts since coming to P.E.I.
Live racing continues Thursday evening at 6 P.M. at Red Shores Charlottetown.
