So Frisky (Dali) won her second open-class harness racing event in a row as she braved a first-over trip to capture the Fillies and Mares Preferred Handicap at The Raceway at the Western Fair District on Wednesday (Apr. 12).
Colin Kelly had the mare flying from her post seven start but settled for a seat in fourth. Exotic Dragon (Travis Cullen) headed the field through a :28.1 first panel, and So Frisky started to press the pace with a first-up move on the second turn.
Exotic Dragon kept the challenger at armās length through the middle splits of :58 and 1:25.2 and appeared to be putting her away down the backstretch. That surge proved inconclusive as So Frisky clawed to even terms on the final turn. They dueled down the lane, and So Frisky found enough in the last yards to pull clear by a half-length and score in 1:54.3.
Exotic Dragon fought to the finish and was a strong second. Escape The House (Austin Sorrie) sat behind the battle throughout and finished third.
SO FRISKY REPLAY
So Frisky took a new seasonal mark with the win and is now four-for-12 in 2023. She also won the Fillies and Mares Preferred last time in London. Anita Ouellette trains the mare, who has won 33 times and has earned $259,053 in 114 career starts. Luc Ouellette Incorporated of Campbellville owns and co-bred the seven-year-old.
The Raceway at the Western Fair District is set to resume racing on Friday, Apr. 14 at 5:50 p.m. EDT.
