Soaring Now (Jk Endofanera) was able to score his first win of the year and did so in the Preferred 2 Pace at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Saturday (Mar. 2).
The Meg Crone trained pacer lined up in post ten with James Macdonald in the bike. When the gate swung open, the field of ten was lost in the fog but Soaring Now was able to find his way to an open space safely sitting in fifth. Saulsbrook Victor took the lead and set fractions of 25.4, 55.1 and 1:24.1. As the field hit the stretch and emerged from the fog, Soaring Now was in a three-horse fight and had enough left in the tank to earn the win. The clock read 1:50.4 as he crossed the finish line. Poseidon Seelster finished second while Saulsbrook Victor fell to third. James Macdonald would end the night with two wins.
SOARING NOW REPLAY
The biggest upset of the night came in the eighth race when Stone Carver (Bettors Delight) won with odds at 34-1. Trevor Henry pushed Stone Carver to the lead and settled in before hitting the quarter-mark. It was a steady 27.0 opening fraction, but it wasnāt good enough for Hesincontrol as he passed Stone Carver and left him in the pocket. The pocket spot was where Stone Carver remained until well after the three-quarter station. He had enough energy left to post a 27.1 last quarter and a finished with 1:50.3 mile time. This was Trevor Henryās only trip to the winnerās circle on the card and he was in the bike for trainer, Anthony Beaton.
