Nathan Sobey began the Tuesday card at Century Downs with a natural hat trick and closed the day with four winners.
He crushed the field with Two Tone Terror (1:55) in the opener then scored two straight open-length wins in the second and third aboard Imafoxytwo (1:57.4) and Sometime Somewhere (1:53.3), respectively. Sobey completed his grand slam with Uchasemikissm (1:56.1) in the fifth. He trains Two Tone Terror, Sometime Somewhere, and Uchasemikissm.
The feature pace went to Brandon Campbell, though, as he drove Just A Start to a wire-to-wire upset score.
Just A Start sprinted away from the gate and asserted himself on the lead in a :28 first quarter clocking. The horse went to the half in :57.1 and turned away a first-over challenger en route to three-quarters in 1:25.1 before storming to the finish in a 1:54.3 two-and-a-half-length romp.
JUST A START REPLAY
Outlaw Gunsablazin (Jamie Gray) closed in the stretch for second; Crackle N Burn (Paul Giesbrecht) was third. The winner paid $17.40.
With the win, Just A Start tallied his first of the season and eighth lifetime. The five-year-old gelding by Western Terror has earned more than $65,000 from 55 career attempts. Campbell trains for Jodi Loftus, George Rogers, and Raymond Henry, who all live in Calgary.
