The Robert Murphy Memorial and Mary Murphy, for three-year-old males and fillies respectively, continued with their second legs on Thursday (Oct. 6) at Fraser Downs with one repeat winner in each series.
Lets Tie One On (Vertical Horizon, Scott Knight) backed up his first-leg win by crushing his career Ā best time in a 1:52.4 score in the first division of the Robert Murphy Memorial. He was a half-length clear of Joe Dimagio (Kelly Hoerdt). Jimmyachance (David Kelly) was third.
LETS TIE ONE ON REPLAY
Christopher Lancaster trains Lets Tie One On for owners Derek Gilbert of Brandon and Hoerdt of Beaumont. The Alberta Sires Stakes event-winning colt is nine-for-21 lifetime and has raked in $130,848 to date.
Chuck You Farlie (Custard The Dragon, Hoerdt) braved the breeze from before the half and grinded out a strong two-length victory in a career-best 1:53.3 in the second group. Itll Be Fine (Richard Lancaster) finished second. So Strange (Kelly) was third.
CHUCK YOU FARLIE REPLAY
It was Chuck You Farlieās fifth win in 25 career tries and it boosted his earnings to $46,524. He finished fifth in the first leg. Hoerdt trains the colt and co-owns him with Blair Corbeil of Beaumont and Ralph Morrow of Cartwright.
Gotta Wear Shades (Custard The Dragon, John Vukelich) bounced back from a first-leg break with a pocket-popping 1:55 victory in the first Mary Murphy division. She rallied past leader Angelsonthehorizon (Dave Hudon), who held second. Shes Bodacious (Kelly) finished third.
GOTTA WEAR SHADES REPLAY
Gotta Wear Shades is now five-for-26 lifetime with a bankroll of $33,224. The clocking was a new lifeās mark. Vukelich, a North Saanich resident, trains the filly and co-owns her with Edwin Loughhead of New Westminster.
Shoot The Whiskey (Shadow Play, Brandon Campbell) repeated in the series, capturing the second division in identical time. She circled pacesetter Memum Knowsnothing (Glenn White) from the pocket; the latter finished second by a half-length. Tin Foil Hat (Hoerdt) recovered from a bumpy start to take third.
SHOOT THE WHISKEY REPLAY
The victory swelled Shoot The Whiskeyās earnings into six-digit territory. The filly has collected $101,428 and won 10 times in 17 career tries. Jim Marino of Surrey trains her for the owning partnership of himself and J J J Stables of Prince George.
Fraser Downs is set to host racing again on Wednesday, Oct. 12.
