Southside Eddy (Betterthancheddar) broke the three-year-old colt harness racing track record in a win of more than 20 lengths at Truro Raceway on Friday (Jul. 8).
He left from post six and was stuck wide entering the first turn but worked forward for Darren Crowe on the outside to take the lead at the quarter in :28.3. The colt paced at top speed to the half in :56.4 and three-quarters in 1:25.1, opening up by 10 lengths in the process.
He then paced the fastest last quarter by two seconds and doubled his margin to 20-and-a-half lengths as he won by nearly the entire stretch in 1:53.3.
Maximumlovin (M MacDonald) and Bettor On Than Off (Ernie Laffin) hit the line together for second, with place going to the former.
SOUTHSIDE EDDY REPLAY
Southside Eddy had shown a flash of brilliance in his previous start, winning by six-and-a-quarter lengths versus similar after a parked-out first half. He is now three-for-six lifetime with $4,904 in earnings. Crowe trains the colt, who debuted in May, for Diane Livingstone of Halifax and Brian Livingstone of Spring (Texas).
Southside Eddyās new record for three-year-old pacing colts is one second better than the one set by Batterup Hanover on Jun. 27, 2021. Woodmere Stealdeal, a gelding, remains the fastest overall three-year-old at the oval with a time of 1:52.2.
Crowe drove two more winners on the day, including Risin Horizon (Vertical Horizon, 1:56.3) in the Winners-Over.
