Sports Anthony, Tobins Gem remain undefeated in P.E.I. Colt Stakes

SUMMERSIDE, PE – Sporty Anthony and Tobins Gem both remain unheeded as they paced to harness racing victory in P.E.I. Colt Stakes Gold action Wednesday evening at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway as part of Governor’s Plate Week racing.

The program featured the P.E.I. Colt Stakes for two-year-old pacing colts with Sporty Anthony ($2.10) reigning victorious in his $16,000 Gold division with Ken Murphy in the bike for co-owner and trainer Jason Biggar and co-owner Jason Williams. The son of Somewhere Fancy is now 2-for-2 in his young career after his 2:00.1 Wednesday score. Tiziano (Driven by Clare MacDonald) was second with Tobins Nibbler (Jason Hughes) third.

SPORTY ANTHONY REPLAY

Tobins Gem ($3.90) won the other $16,000 Gold division with a 1:59 victory for driver Marc Campbell, trainer George Rennison and owner Rennison Racing Inc., of Truro. The Flameproof Hanover colt is also 2-for-2 lifetime. McLovin (Kenny Arsenault) grabbed second ahead of Zero Two Sixty (Robert Laffin).

The $8,000 P.E.I. Colt Stakes Grassroots divisions for rookie colts were captured by Saltwater Captain ($4.60) in 2:00.1 with David Dowling driving for David Myers, Windemere Barkley ($2.60) in 2:03.1 for trainer-driver Zach Mullins, Den Of Thieves ($3.60) in 1:58.4 for trainer-driver Adam Merner and Dirt Track Eddie ($16.50) with Corey MacPherson in the bike for trainer Jamie Smith in 2:01.4. The final two $8,000 Grassroots divisions were claimed by trainer Tom Weatherbie and driver Brodie MacPhee as Louie The Lip ($3.90) won in 1:58.2 in race 11 and Oceanview Lou ($4.10) was a winner in 1:59 in race 13.

Race 11 saw an accident with Smilin With Lou (Gilles Barrieau) making a break and falling past the three-quarters. Both horse and driver walked off the track unscathed.
