Harness racing reinsman Marc St. Louis Jr. was perfect on Thursday at Rideau Carleton Raceway, visiting the winner’s circle after all five of his drives.
He kicked off the day by sending Western Phil, a Rideau fixture this year, wire to wire in 1:53.1 for the horse’s fastest win of his three on the season. Anne Marie Turenne conditions the seven-year-old Sportswriter gelding.
St. Louis then went on a three-race spell of success with wins aboard Eataamsbettershark (1:54.1) in the sixth, Apeeper Hanover (1:56.2) in the seventh, and Red John (1:53.3) in the eighth.
The Guelph-based horseman claimed Fcee N in the 11th race and set an example for his new gelding as he steered Genesee, a 12-year-old gelded son of Bettors Delight, to a commanding five-and-three-quarter-length 1:54.1 victory in the same contest.
Trainer John Macmillan also had a fruitful evening: he sent out winners Sweet Nan (1:55.3), Shallow (1:56.4), and Mr Contestant (1:56.1), all of whom he co-owns.
Rideau Carleton Raceway returns to action on Sunday, Aug. 1 with a 12-race card that features two Preferred Handicaps. First post is set for 6:30 p.m. EDT.
