Stash The Cookies (Sunfire Blue Chip) wired the harness racing field to win her second consecutive Fillies and Mares Preferred at Century Mile on Friday (Nov. 29).
In the frigid Alberta cold, Stash The Cookies controlled the race, cutting :28.3, :57.3, and 1:26.2 fractions. Outlaw Sharktastic (Nathan Sobey) launched from the pocket as the top two straightened for home, kicking off a stretch-long chase. Outlaw Sharktastic bore down, forcing the photo finish, but Stash The Cookies kept her head in front to win in 1:55. Outlawaboveandbeyond (Mike Hennessy) was three lengths adrift in third.
STASH THE COOKIES REPLAY
Stash The Cookies has been arguably the best free-for-alling mare in Western Canada this season with 10 top-level wins in 15 starts. She passed $400,000 in career earnings with the latest score, her 40th lifetime from 115 appearances. John Chappell trains the eight-year-old for Derek Gilbert of Brandon.
The nightās other outstanding performance came from Sobey, who tallied five driving wins. He was perfect through the first three races, then took the sixth and seventh.
Century Mile hosts its next card on Saturday, Nov. 30, starting at 7:30 p.m. MST.
