Stash The Cookies (Sunfire Blue Chip) battered her opponents in the Fillies and Mares Open Pace at Century Downs on Friday (Sep. 30) for her 10th win of the season.

The mare was third-fastest away for Logan Gillis but powered forward to reach the top before the quarter in :28. She immediately went to work building an advantage and was five lengths up at half in :56.2 and six clear at three-quarters in 1:25.1.

Gillis kept the mare to task down the stretch, but she was never in danger as she won by five lengths in 1:54.4.

Betcha Baby (Brandon Campbell) edged out If Only Id Known (Nathan Sobey) for second.

STASH THE COOKIES REPLAY

Stash The Cookies returned to the winner’s circle after two defeats – a third and a fifth in her past two starts. She won in similar fashion on Aug. 13 but took nearly a month off after that. Gillis trains the six-year-old, who is now 20-for-67 lifetime with $212,649 for Derek Gilbert of Brandon.

Also on the card, three-year-old stakes contender Saphire Blue (Vertical Horizon) tightened with a half-length 1:56.4 victory. The filly has won two races this season but has made the finals of four stakes  vents. Phil Giesbrecht drove her for trainer Harold Haining and owner Donald Richardson of Cochrane.

Brandon Campbell led all drivers with a grand slam on the day.

Century Downs’s next program on Saturday, Oct. 1 features five Alberta Sires Stakes divisions for two-year-olds. The card will kick off at 1:15 p.m. MDT.
