Top Alberta pacing mare Stash The Cookies (Sunfire Blue Chip) snagged her first harness racing victory of the season on Friday (May 31) at Century Downs in the $25,000 Fillies and Mares Preferred.

Brandon Campbell guided her into the three-hole early, sitting there to the quarter in :27.2 before making a backstretch move approaching the half in :56.1. She reached the front shortly after and carried her lead through three-quarters in 1:24.3, extending the gap to two-and-a-half lengths coming down the stretch. Century Mach (Kelly Hoerdt) emerged with a late rush, but Stash The Cookies was home three-quarters-of-a-length clear in 1:54.1. Century Mach was second, followed by Outlaw Sharktastic (Nathan Sobey).

STASH THE COOKIES REPLAY

Stash The Cookies, now eight, won the Century Mile Preferred four times last season after catching fire in September. She began her 2024 campaign with a place finish in the top class a week ago. She has won 31 of 102 career outings and has earned $328,984. John Chappell trains the mare for Derek Gilbert of Brandon.

Racing continues at Century Downs at 12:45 p.m. MDT on Saturday, Jun. 1. The 12-race card features the $54,800 Alberta Sires Stakes Marksman Final.
