London, ON – January 6, 2023 — The Raceway paid tribute to longtime harness racing fan favourite Stonebridge Scout (Western Maverick) during a special retirement ceremony on Friday evening (Jan. 6).
The pacer, known for his flashy looks, had been scheduled to make his final career start on New Yearās Eve at the London oval, however the card was cancelled due to weather.
A large entourage, including owner Gladys McCarty of London, were on hand Friday to celebrate with the gelding who was honoured during a trackside presentation before leading the post parade with regular driver Scott Wray for the nightās 4th race.
Stonebridge Scout ended his 14th year with a summary of 28-42-43 from 342 starts and a little over $196,000 in earnings. His career-best clocking of 1:55.2 came at age 8 and this past season he was just one-fifth of a second off that personal best when he clicked in 1:55.3 at London this past May in the Ontario Regional Driving Championship.
Live racing resumes at The Raceway this Monday evening at 5:50 p.m. Horse people are reminded that the annual awards night will be held on Saturday, February 25 at the Top Of The Fair dining room. The 2022 award winners, along with ticket details, will be announced next week.
