Streaking Moosette dethroned at Fraser

Century Mach reached the finish in time to end Moosette’s three-week Filly and Mare Open Pace reign on Monday night at Fraser Downs, holding off the harness racing mare by a head.

Century Mach stepped up to the Open and was half length short on May 2 after her own three-race streak in the top conditioned event.

In the May 9 edition, Century Mach switched tactics and thundered to the top early for owner, trainer, and driver Kelly Hoerdt. The daughter of Jk Royal Flush supplied a :27 opening split after beating two foes to the lead and enjoyed a stress-free :56.2 half.

Pressure came passing three-quarters in 1:24.3 when Hottieonthehorizon (Richard Lancaster) marched first-up from third, and Moosette joined the action as Brandon Campbell slid her second-over. Century Mach paced strongly around the final turn, though, opening up two and a half lengths on Hottieonthehorizon and four on Moosette. Moosette rallied gamely down the lane, but Century Mach proved a head to good as she crossed the line a winner in 1:53.1.

Moosette was a length and a half clear of Hottieonthehorizon. The winner returned $5.

CENTURY MACH REPLAY

Century Mach improved her lifetime record to 11-for-35 lifetime and increased her bankroll to $55,245. The four-year-old has finished no worse than second in her past 10 starts.

Trainers scoring their first victories of the season bookended the card. Kenneth Dorman of Aldergrove sent out 13-year-old Art Major gelding Savannah Splendor, who was first at every pole in a 1:58 winning mile. Spiderman, a six-year-old gelding by Up The Credit, won in similar fashion for Shawn Sinner of Surrey with a 1:55.2 clocking.

Fraser Downs will go dark until Monday, May 16 at 6:00 p.m. PDT.
