SUMMERSIDE, PE – With a perfect garden trip Flash In The Pang reached up in the stretch drive to top the Monday evening harness racing Preferred Pace at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.

Racing action at Summerside Raceway

Leaving from post 1, Flash In The Pang sat behind Chocolate Swirl (Driven by Jason Hughes) through splits of 27.4, 57 and 1:26.2 in the $3,000 preferred 2 pace.

Merner then showed the Hughie Murphy owned and trained Flash In The Pang (Pang Shui) open air in the stretch drive to deliver by a head in 1:56 over race favourite Hunger Pangs (Marc Campbell) and Nogreatmischief (Walter Cheverie).

Jason Hughes had three wins on the night to continue to eat into Campbell’s lead in the driver’s standings. The Stratford driver won with Southwind Bronn (1:58) for trainer Jennifer Doyle, JJ Jillian (2:03) in a maiden breaking score for trainer Robert Phillips and Instant Shadow (1:57.2) from the Dawn Hubbard stable.

Former Atlantic Champion Heart And Soul (Cheverie) won the $2,600 back-up pace in 1:55.3 for his first win of the year for trainer George Riley and owner Riley Farms of Summerside.

Live racing continues Thursday and Saturday at Red Shores Charlottetown with a 6 P.M. post time and Monday (Sept. 27) at 6:30 P.M. at Red Shores Summerside.
