Fraser Downs hosted a nine-dash harness racing card Friday (Mar. 15) night. Sunshine Boy (Sunshine Beach) won the Preferred Pace which was held in the ninth and final race.
Itll Be Fine (David Hudon) tried to take the early lead at 18-1 but it wasn’t long before Sunshine Boy decided to make his move. He was caught two-wide for the opening turn but took the lead just after hitting the first quarter station in 26.3. Sunshine Boy held a length advantage on Itll Be Fine at the half mile mark. The clock read 55.3 and Sunshine Boy would go on to win in 1:51.4.
Itll Be Fine held on to second place and Armycaptin Hanover (Rod Therres) finished third.
Sunshine Boy has won four of his five starts this year and they all have been in the Preferred Pace at Fraser Downs. The Albert-bred pacer has 27 career wins and 48 top three finishes. His fastest mile of 1:51.3 was achieved on Feb. 16. Jim Marino trains the six-year-old gelding.
Kelly Hoerdt added four driving wins and three of the wins also count as training wins. Hoerdt won the first race with Diva Amour (Custard The Dragon) in 1:55.1.Ā Hoerdt would return to the winner’s circle in the fourth with Iknowbetter (Betterthancheddar). He scored the hat trick in the sixth with Light My Shadow (Shawdow Play) and finished the night off with Bay Street Buddy (Betterthancheddar) in the eighth.
