Sunshine Boy (Sunshine Beach) closed out the Fraser Downs meet on top as he won the final Preferred of the year at the harness racing track on Friday (Dec. 27).
The gelding marched to the front on the track rated good, seizing command near the quarter in :26.2. He cut middle panels of :55.4 and 1:24.3 and was put to a drive by Outlaw C My Shadow (Tyson Jacoby) on the final turn. He brushed that rival off and came home a winner, reaching the wire with a length-and-a-half in hand over the closing Rum N Raisins (Larry Small). Outlaw C My Shadow was third.

Sunshine Boy has won 11 times this season in 31 appearances. The Jim Marino-trained gelding has racked up 34 victories in 99 career starts with $337,103 in earnings. The six-year-old is owned by JJJ Stables of Prince George, Paul Sanders of Surrey, and Marino.
Kelly Hoerdt was the meetās leading driver with 83 wins, two more than Scott Knight, who doubled on the final card. Marino captured the training title comfortably, tallying 79 victories. Rod Therres took the place spot with 70.
Racing will return to Fraser Downs on Thursday, Feb. 13, 2025 to begin its spring meet, which will run until early May.
